With this body of work, I am searching for an “American portrait” that bears witness to the tension between personal animus and collective action. My aim is to mold these images into works that express the zeitgeist on display in cities and streets across America today. To achieve this contemporary portrait, I seek to render simple signs that reflect the flawed, yet hopeful, reality of American identity.
